What was once a split-faced limestone stack fireplace that was falling off the wall as a bad DiY job from a previous owner, turned into an elegant rustic fireplace with modern elements.

The current homeowners had enough of the previous homeowners DiY project and after living in the home for quite a few years and removing the stack stone in the kitchen they decided to tackle the fireplace. Originally the homeowners had hoped to convert the propane insert to a wood burning fireplace but due to code restrictions and build-out requirements, they decided to upgrade the insert and then reimagine the facade to allow for more of their style.

We joined them and created a functional and beautiful piece they will enjoy for many years to come by incorporating her love and desire of a live edge mantle with river rock, hidden electronic component storage for him and even some reclaimed stack wood for the upper spot. We worked with our friends over in Hobart to create a beautiful redwood live edge that is 4″ thick, by 10″ deep and 10′ in width. Did we mention it’s heavy? Then we called in our local stone masons to add in the river rocks, hand picked, to keep the sizing consistent and then of course our fine carpentry skills to finish it off.

The homeowners have cherrywood cabinets in the adjoining kitchen space and brazilian cherry hardwoods throughout the space so we added the touch of the cherrywood to the electronic cabinetry to tie it all in. And then we custom painted the fireplace face-frame and decorative steel mesh panels all in the antiqued bronze color to compliment one another. All just in time for Christmas decor!
